Flindt Plaza
The idea behind the sculpture's design came out in 2011, when it was hoped that a more elaborate short column lamp would illuminate a park next to Kunsthal Brænderigården (now Viborg Kunsthal), an art exhibition space in Jutland, Denmark, where the exhibition was taking place. The luminaire received rave reviews, so Louis Poulsen decided to work closely with Christian Flindt on the design. Optimisised in terms of material quality, light distribution and efficiency, the short column lamp was launched in 2014 as an Flindt short column lamp at the Light+ Building trade fair in Frankfurt.
The simple beauty of the short pillar lamp Flindt, combined with its flexible features and pleasant light, has made it a great choice – as an elegant decoration for city parks and other public areas during the day, while making these areas accessible and safe at night.
Following the successful launch of the Flindt short column light, Flindt Plaza will continue to represent the Flindt collection for spaces that require higher, larger scale and more aesthetically pleasing lighting conditions. For added flexibility in lighting design, the lighting unit can be adjusted on-site from plus or minus 5° vertically and 360° horizontally for a more variable light distribution.
"We built the light unit at Flindt Plaza and directed the light to create landscape lighting. Even on the day of final commissioning, we can still adjust the module and the angle of the beam will change. Kasper Hammer said.
The Flindt Plaza is also based on the modular principle, and in some constructions up to four extremely flexible lamp heads can be installed on a single pole.
"To create landscape lighting for the environment, you need to ensure the flexibility of the luminaires. To create an engaging environment, it was critical that we created a modular system that helps lighting designers, indicators, architects and planners work together during the design process. Kasper Hammer said.
The luminaire emits light directly downwards. The light source is hidden on top of an asymmetrical engraving pattern on the side of the pole, and its inclination acts as a reflector, softening the light and creating a pleasant organic light and shadow.
Flindt Plaza is available in both weathering steel and aluminum versions with a textured finish. Textured finishes not only enhance visibility and reflect in an elegant way, whether in sunlight or through artificial lighting, but also ensure durability in a wide range of applications.
Flindt Plaza pillar dome lights will be available in spring 2021.
