Panthella integrates naturally into the dining room, living room, bedroom, and kitchen. In the dining area, it provides soft, glare-free light above the table, supporting conversation and everyday gatherings. In the living room, Panthella in varying sizes and colors can be composed together to create a cohesive yet dynamic lighting scheme. In the bedroom, the lamp delivers calm, functional illumination that supports rest and daily routines.
Dinning Room
Placed on a dining table in the dinning room, Panthella creates a welcoming atmosphere with gently diffused, evenly distributed light. Portable editions such as Panthella 160 Portable and Panthella 250 Portable allow precise placement wherever light is needed. The soft illumination enhances both the meal and the surrounding setting. Panthella’s distinctive silhouette and carefully considered color palette introduce a sculptural presence while maintaining a timeless expression.
Living Room
In living spaces, Panthella can be arranged in different scales and finishes to establish layered illumination. Combining several versions allows the light to support both relaxed evenings and more active use. The Panthella Floor Lamp is often positioned within seating areas, where its glare-free light and flexible placement contribute to a calm, balanced atmosphere. The range of colors allows for personal interpretation while preserving visual harmony within the space.
Kitchen
Panthella performs comfortably in the kitchen, providing even, comfortable light across countertops and preparation areas. Its simple, organic form integrates naturally with cabinetry and furnishings, whether placed on a sideboard or kitchen island. Portable models such as Panthella 160 Portable and Panthella 250 Portable make it easy to position light precisely, including beneath wall cabinets. The durable construction supports long-term use, bringing Danish design clarity and practical function into the kitchen environment.
In the 1960s, Louis Poulsen began collaborating with Verner Panton, whose experimental approach to form and light challenged established conventions. Over several years, Panthella evolved as Panton explored materials, reflection, and color to achieve soft, atmospheric illumination.
The chrome version closely reflected his original vision. The high-luster chrome-plated finish expresses Verner Panton’s confident and forward-thinking character. At a time defined by muted interiors, chrome was a deliberate choice that questioned prevailing norms. Today, the finish resonates again as elements of 1970s design influence contemporary interiors.
Introduced in 1971, Panthella combined an organic silhouette with distinctive, glare-free illumination. The curved shade and trumpet-shaped base work together to reflect light softly and evenly. Panthella is widely regarded as a modern design icon.
Panthella demonstrates Verner Panton’s ability to unite form, color, and function in a cohesive design. Since 1971, the lamp has remained part of Louis Poulsen’s collection and is today the only Verner Panton lighting design produced by Louis Poulsen.
The Flowerpot lamp, also designed by Verner Panton, is no longer part of the collection but holds recognized status as a modern design icon. Together, Flowerpot and Panthella represent complementary expressions within Panton’s design universe and underscore his lasting influence on Danish design with international reach.
Verner Panton lighting serves not only as a source of illumination but also as a defining architectural element. Even when switched off, Panthella’s organic contours and balanced proportions provide a distinct graphic presence. Its recognizable form can function as a natural focal point, adding character while maintaining understated elegance.
Verner Panton was a pioneer of Danish design, known for his confident use of color, geometry, and light. From furniture such as the Cone Chair and the Panton Chair to his innovative lighting designs, Panthella reflects his ability to combine aesthetics, function, and experimentation. His vision continues to influence how light shapes space and atmosphere.
