Light Alu Grey

NJP thrives in a grey zone

Futuristic yet familiar: the NJP in Light Alu Grey. Conceived as a new interpretation of the classic architect’s lamp, the popular NJP family expands with a soft, versatile Light Alu Grey version for forward-thinking modern interiors.

The epitome of human design

In designing the NJP lamp, nendo’s Oki Sato sought to unite a sense of instant recognition with the appeal of the never-before-seen. The resulting design achieves just that, pairing an organic-shaped head with a geometric stem, and adding ultra-adjustable arm joints and a hidden timer function.

The new Light Alu Grey sequel to the original black and white versions shows a softer side of the minimalist NJP, beautifully balancing the inherent coolness of metal and the warmth of an inviting, soft grey.

In both design and functionality, the NJP serves as an ideal task light for work spaces, bedrooms, and living areas, bringing versatility and simple, elegant, user-centric design.

Smart and flexible, head to foot

The lamp’s applications and visual impact have been considered in every detail. The head and arms, for instance, offer great flexibility and make it easy to find an ideal position, whether at a desk, by a bed, or in a seating area. The exposed springs at the arm joints add to the NJP’s decorative expression. In addition to defining the NJP’s silhouette, the head reflects some of the light through the rear, illuminating the top of the arm – and also cools the LED lamps through its top vent.

The NJP features built-in LED technology and, despite its compact size, spreads its softly diffused, glare-free and high-quality light over a large area.

The designer

Oki Sato, head of the renowned Japanese nendo design studio, is known for infusing minimalist forms with memory-arousing details, and using soft, friendly shapes that make his designs appear instantly comfortable in their environment. The NJP lamp exemplifies this approach with its familiar, chimney-shaped head design.

Born in 1977 in Toronto, Canada, Sato founded nendo design studio in 2002. Unlike many iconic, minimalist designers guided primarily by the ‘form follows function’ mantra, Sato finds it essential to look at the history behind the product and its design. Each element needs to make sense and contribute to a complete story: a design credo that adds a compelling angle to each new Oki Sato work.
