Panthella is well suited to the dining room, living room and bedroom alike. In the dining room, Panthella provides comfortable, glare-free light across the table, supporting conversation and shared moments. In the living room, multiple Panthella lamps in different sizes and colours can be combined to create a dynamic yet harmonious interior. In the bedroom, Panthella contributes calm, functional illumination that supports relaxation and wellbeing.
Dining room
In the dining room, Panthella is ideal for creating a welcoming atmosphere. Portable versions such as Panthella 160 and Panthella 250 make it easy to position the lamp directly on the dining table, where its soft, diffused light is needed most. The light is distributed evenly across the surface, highlighting both the meal and the setting. Panthella’s distinctive form and colour palette introduce an artistic element that elevates the space with a timeless expression.
Living room
In the living room, Panthella in various sizes and finishes can be used to create a cohesive and considered lighting arrangement. Combining several models allows the lighting to adapt to both relaxation and activity. The Panthella Floor Lamp is often placed in the living area, where its glare-free light and flexible positioning help establish a calm atmosphere. The range of colours opens up for subtle personal expression while maintaining balance within the interior.
Kitchen
Panthella integrates naturally into the kitchen, providing even and comfortable illumination across work surfaces. The simple design sits easily alongside other kitchen elements, whether placed on a sideboard or a kitchen island. The solid construction ensures lasting durability, while portable models such as Panthella 160 and Panthella 250 allow light to be positioned precisely, including beneath wall cabinets. Panthella introduces a discreet presence of Danish design and functionality into the kitchen.
In the 1960s, Louis Poulsen began collaborating with Verner Panton, whose uncompromising approach to light and form challenged conventional ideas of lighting. The development of Panthella evolved over several years, during which Verner Panton experimented with materials, light reflection and colour to achieve a soft, atmospheric quality of light.
The chrome version held particular significance for him. The high-lustre chrome-plated surface reflects Verner Panton’s bold and playful design approach. Chrome was a deliberate and confident choice at a time characterised by more restrained expressions, demonstrating his willingness to challenge prevailing norms. Today, this finish has regained relevance as the visual language of the 1970s once again influences contemporary interiors.
When Panthella was launched in 1971, the lamp united its organic silhouette with a distinctive, glare-free light designed to evoke imagination and sensory appeal. The characteristic shade and trumpet-shaped base reflect light softly and harmoniously. Today, Panthella is regarded by many design enthusiasts as a modern design icon.
Panthella clearly expresses Verner Panton’s ability to unite form, colour and function in a coherent design. Since its introduction in 1971, the lamp has remained part of Louis Poulsen’s collection and is today the only Verner Panton lamp produced by Louis Poulsen.
The Flowerpot lamp, also designed by Verner Panton, is no longer part of the Louis Poulsen range, yet it has achieved recognition as a modern design icon. With its clear formal language and optimistic expression, Flowerpot and Panthella became symbols of a new era and a more open, experimental design culture. Together, they represent two sides of Verner Panton’s design universe and reflect his lasting influence on Danish design with international impact.
Verner Panton lamps are not only functional light sources; they also serve as defining aesthetic elements within a space. When switched off, Panthella’s organic forms and harmonious proportions contribute a distinctive graphic presence. The recognisable design enhances the interior, and its placement can naturally become an artistic focal point that adds character to the overall setting.
Verner Panton was a pioneer of Danish design, recognised for his confident use of colour, form and light. From classics such as the Cone Chair and the Panton Chair to his innovative lighting designs, Panthella demonstrates his ability to combine aesthetics, function and experimentation. Verner Panton’s visionary approach continues to inspire and illustrates how design can shape space and atmosphere.
