About the Patera Pendant

In 2015, the Patera pendant designed by Øivind Slaatto launched as a modern take on the classic chandelier, bringing a glowing focal point and soft, dynamic illumination to contemporary spaces. The Patera’s glare-free, 360-degree illumination is the result of an intricate design with differently positioned cells that bathe surrounding spaces, people, and objects in natural, even, and flattering light.

The form is beautiful to behold from all angles, its Fibonacci sequence-based structure providing a different impression from every vantage point. “My ultimate goal was to create a three-dimensional Sudoku. It was an extremely mathematical assignment. In fact, it’s the most complex light I have ever made ... I think it has a certain poetry about it, and my aim was to construct a modern crystal chandelier. I hope people will feel inspired to move around it. I hope it generates life.” (Øivind Slaatto)

At once sophisticated and daring, the reimagined chandelier is a dazzling addition to modern or traditional spaces open to new twists on classic concepts. A single Patera creates a luminous focal point. A series of them – staggered or aligned, in one size or all three – creates the sense of magic we feel when we look up at the starry sky.

The Patera pendant is offered in white, and is available in the following dimensions:

Patera pendant in white: 300 mm, 450 mm, 600 mm, and 900 mm.

The Patera pendant in your home

Perfect for various spaces, the Patera pendant can be hung above dining tables, sofa tables, or placed in a corner to brighten a side table. It also works wonderfully in pairs, creating a balanced composition of light and form. With four available sizes, the Patera pendant encourages creative arrangements, with each size complementing the others in harmony.

For more specific suggestions, consider the following rooms for the Patera pendant:

Living room: Centre the pendant in the room to set an inviting tone, or hang it above a side table to create a more intimate lighting effect.

Dining room: A great match for dining tables, providing soft, glare-free lighting for memorable meals. For longer tables, consider using the smaller sizes in pairs.

Bedroom: Hang the smaller sizes above the bed or in the corner next to a bedside table to craft a peaceful reading nook with soothing light.

Light source

E27 socket:
All four sizes of the Patera pendant can be ordered with an E27 socket base which is suitable for various light bulb types, ensuring compatibility with LED (including some smart bulbs) and incandescent bulbs.
(Bulb not included).

Built-in LED:
The Ø 450 can be ordered with a built-in LED light source, either LED 2700K 42W or LED 3000K 42W.

The Ø 600 can be ordered with a built-in LED light source, either LED 2700K 65W or LED 3000K 65W.

The Ø 900 can be ordered with a built-in LED light source, either LED 2700K 97W or LED 3000K 97W.

Louis Poulsen suggests opting for a cooler light (3000K) in work or reading spaces, while a warmer light (2700K) is ideal for creating a cosy atmosphere.

Simple care

Caring for the Patera pendant is simple if done regularly. Given its intricate design, we understand that cleaning can be challenging, but with a dry microfiber cloth, it’s easy to keep the pendant looking flawless. Avoid using household cleaners or vacuuming the pendant.

Cleaning Tip: Louis Poulsen recommends removing the pendant from its mount and holding it in your lap for easier handling. This allows you to rotate it and reach every part, ensuring thorough cleaning while maintaining its elegance.

The Patera Oval

The Patera Oval, introduced in 2021, is part of the Patera family of pendants. Designed by Øivind Slaatto, it completes the collection with its ellipsoid form.

This version of the Patera pendant is ideal for spaces with lower ceiling heights or where a flatter, circular shape is preferred. It’s particularly suited to dining tables and often works beautifully in pairs for longer tables.
