Bathroom Lighting
Designer bathroom lighting makes a stylish statement in the master bath and hallway bathrooms. Light reflects off mirrors and glass shower enclosures, making form matter as much as function when creating a lighting plan. To craft a bathroom light scheme balancing atmosphere with functionality, choose a blend of ambient and task lighting. Ambient lighting evokes feelings of tranquility, while task lighting eliminates glare, shadows, and color distortion — perfect for shaving, makeup application, and other detailed tasks.
Our eclectic assortment of table and wall lamps features both ornate, permanent fixtures and minimalist, portable solutions.
Please note: no lamps should be placed inside the shower or in close proximity to water sources. Always consult a certified electrician when installing lighting in your bathroom to ensure safety and compliance.
Creating atmosphere with bathroom lighting
Lighting sets the tone for your bathroom, whether you're preparing for the day ahead or unwinding in the evening. A ceiling lamp provides essential general light, while wall lamps and portable table lamps offer warmth and flexibility.
Wall lamps can define areas around the mirror or bath, and a table lamp placed on a shelf or counter brings a cosy, personal feel. Combining different light sources helps create a layered, inviting atmosphere that adapts to every moment.

Task lighting for the bathroom
In addition to general illumination, good task lighting is key for activities like applying makeup or shaving. Placing a wall lamp on either side of the mirror ensures even, shadow-free light on the face. Thoughtful placement helps reduce glare and supports a calm, functional space.
Adding multiple light sources also balances brightness across the room, making the bathroom feel both practical and comfortably illuminated.

Bathroom Lighting FAQ
What type of lighting is best for bathrooms?
Your bathroom lighting should be flexible to your needs. When using your bathroom for grooming or makeup application, you need a well-lit space with minimal shadows. But you might also want to take a relaxing bath in lower light. Choosing bathroom lights that can be flexible is ideal.
Consider placing pendant lights on each side of the mirror at eye level to avoid shadows that make using the mirror difficult when getting ready in the morning. These lights are more favorable than overhead lights that create shadows.
For relaxation, opt for recessed bathroom lights above the bathtub, with a dimmer switch. You can lower the lights as needed to cultivate a relaxing space.
Can I use warm lighting in a bathroom?
Your bathroom lighting should prioritize visibility and reduce shadows. Try to opt for neutral white or cool white lights in the 3700K to 4500K range, which is especially helpful for applying makeup. While a warmer bulb can feel inviting, warm bathroom lights may distort colors or make shaving more difficult. In addition to visibility, a brighter white can create the illusion of a larger space
What is IP rating, and why does it matter for bathroom lighting?
Your bathroom has several water sources; understanding the IP rating for your bathroom lights is important.
IP, or Ingress Protection rating, describes the level of protection a light fixture has from dust and water. The rating uses two digits. The first digit measures protection from dust and solid particles on a scale from 0 to 6. The second digit measures protection from water on a scale from 0 to 8. For both measurements, a higher number indicates better protection.
Your bathroom can be divided into three zones: Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2. Zone 0 is where your bath and shower are located. Bathroom lighting used here should be a minimum of IP67. Zone 1 is the area above your bath or shower. Lights placed here should have a minimum of IP44, but IP65 is ideal. Lastly, lights in Zone 2 outside your bath or near the sink, should be a minimum of IP44. By following these guidelines, you can keep your bathroom a well-lit and safe place
Bathroom Lamps & Light Fixtures
Wall Lamps
Wall lamps, also known as sconces, provide both ambient and task lighting in bathrooms of all sizes and configurations.
Our orb-like PH Hat Wall Lamps complement the streamlined, minimalist look of Modern-style bathrooms. The lack of hardware means the lamps won't compete with cabinet pulls, faucets, and other chrome and metal bathroom fixtures.
The rose-colored, opaque shade emits a relaxation-inducing ambient glow and tilts to provide direct light where needed. For the most significant light payoff, place the illuminated discs on either side of a vanity mirror or place one between two mirrors.
The VL 38 Wall Lamp also serves a dual purpose, providing ambient light while also featuring an adjustable brass arm for focused light.
Place wall lamps at eye level to prevent casting harsh glares and shadows over your face. Recessed wall lamps positioned near the shower stall and above the toilet will make it easier to maneuver these areas.
Portable Lamps
Temporarily altering the bathroom lighting scheme doesn't have to be a cumbersome task when you use portable lamps. The best part? You can place them almost anywhere. For instance, the Tomoshi and VL 45 Radiohus portable lamps are welcome additions on counters, shelves, and accent tables.
If having enough counter space is a concern, you can also hang these portable lamps from hooks, transforming them into pendant lights for overhead illumination.
