Meet the Panthella Portable

The Panthella universe has been a joy with its colors and quality lighting since Louis Poulsen introduced it in collaboration with the famous Danish designer Verner Panton nearly 50 years ago. Now, Louis Poulsen presents Panthella Portable. A downscaled acrylic replica of the original lamp that is battery-powered and easy to take anywhere, creating ambiance with a Nordic twist everywhere you go.

The miniature Panthella provides any space with a harmonic and glare-free light, enabling you to enjoy Panton’s design in the great outdoors.

Just like the original metal lamp, Panthella Portable emits a downward light, which is reflected in the lamp's trumpet-shaped base. However, it creates a more delicate light overall because the transparency of the opal shade and the reflection of the downward beam on the inner side of the shade provides a gentler glow and expression.

Once charged via USB, the Panthella Portable can easily be taken along to create a pleasant and exclusive ambiance in the backyard, on the balcony, outside a restaurant, or anywhere there isn’t access to electricity.

Panthella Portable will be offered in opal acrylic (Diam: 160 mm) from May 2020.

About Verner Panton

Verner Panton (1926-1998) is famous for his inspirational and colorful personality - a unique person with a, extraordinary sense for color, shape, light function, and space. Over the course of his career, Panton introduced a series of modern lamps with personalities unlike any of his Scandinavian contemporaries. With remarkable faith in the unlimited possibilities of form, he worked successfully to create a new set of theories about light function and influence.

"The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination. Most people spend their lives living in dreary, gray-beige conformity, mortally afraid of using colors. By experimenting with lighting, colors, textiles, and furniture, and utilizing the latest technologies, I try to show new ways. To encourage people to use their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting." - Verner Panton

Verner had a very clear attitude regarding his work, and about shape, color, and function. At the same time, he made conscious and brave use of different materials. His use of different materials often led to his contemporaries disparaging the "timelessness" of his designs. The great interest in his work today proves the opposite.

About Louis Poulsen

In 1924, Poul Henningsen created his influential Paris lamp for Louis Poulsen. The origin of how we still design to shape light can directly be traced back to his views on the dualities of design and light.

Founded in 1874, Louis Poulsen is a Danish lighting manufacturer born out of the Scandinavian design tradition where form follows function. The function and design of our products are tailored to reflect and support the rhythm of natural light. Every detail in the design has a purpose. Every design starts and ends with light.

We believe in passionate craftsmanship that produces quality lighting, and we design products that are both pleasing to the eye and to the light.

In close partnership with designers, architects, and other talents like Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Øivind Slaatto, Alfred Homann, Oki Sato, and Louise Campbell, we have established ourselves as one of the key global suppliers of architectural and decorative lighting. Our products defy traditional product categories, serving and spanning the professional and private lighting markets for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Our means are simple and beautiful design. Our purpose is to create an attractive ambiance that affects people and spaces.

We design to shape light.
