Rare lamps to be featured at Sotheby’s
For the first time, Louis Poulsen will collaborate with the British founded auction house Sotheby’s to present twelve rare lamps, during the Important Design sale in New York, from 9-12 December.

Marking the grand finale
Twelve extraordinary Louis Poulsen lamps will be featured in Sotheby’s December sale, concluding the First House of Light’s 150th anniversary celebration.
Louis Poulsen acquired the original pieces from Poul Henningsen expert and historian Steen Bo Andersen in 1999. Today, they represent a notable, yet small part of the complete collection.

The master of light
Poul Henningsen was a renowned Danish architect, often referred to as the master of light, whose innovative contributions transformed modern lighting. He is best known for his PH lamp, first introduced at the Paris International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925.
PH developed System PH, a unique light diffusion system that eliminated glare, fostering a warmer and more inviting atmosphere reminiscent of the candlelight and kerosene lamp ambience from his childhood

A seasoned partnership
Poul Henningsen was around thirty years old in 1924, when he began collaborating with Louis Poulsen. The partnership continued until his death many years later, and set new standards for functional and aesthetic lighting, influencing design principles worldwide.
