Louis Poulsen is thrilled to launch designer Øivind Slaatto’s mesmerizing form in a new silver foil material. In 2015, the Patera pendant originally launched in white as a modern take on the classic chandelier, bringing a glowing focal point and soft, dynamic illumination to contemporary spaces.

While classic in its form and Danish design principles, the silver Patera takes a bold step away from minimalism. Its reflective profile instantly catches the eye whether or not the lamp is lit, becoming an irresistible focal point and an essential part of the room's ambiance. The silver Patera is ideally suited for spaces unafraid to stand out, make a statement, and show off their personality –in a hip hotel, the newest concept restaurant, an innovative concert hall, offices and conference spaces that reject generic décor, or residential spaces that embrace dramatic and unexpected style.

A sense of wonder and celebration

“Classic chandeliers can turn any space into a ballroom,” says Slaatto. The silver Patera heightens this majestic effect. The design’s soft, glare-free, 360-degree illumination is the result of an intricate design. Patera consists of a variety of differently positioned cells that bathe surrounding spaces, people, and objects in natural, even, and flattering light, while preventing stark and undesirable shadows.

Patera’s form is beautiful to behold from all angles, its Fibonacci sequence-based structure providing a different impression from every vantage point. At once sophisticated and daring, the reimagined chandelier is a stunning addition to modern or traditional spaces open to new twists on long-existing concepts. A single silver Patera creates a luminous focal point. A series of them – staggered or aligned, in one size or all three – creates the sense of magic we feel when we gaze up at the starry sky.

The silver Patera is assembled entirely by hand. like its white counterpart, it is available in 17” and 23” diameters. Light and airy, the pendant is easy to install in many settings. It comes with an E27/E26 fitting, allowing the use of a variety of light sources, including LED. Patera is also available with an integrated LED solution.

Technology catches up with a vision

Even as the white Patera went into production, Slaatto was envisioning a metallic version of his design. Three years later, screen technology has come a long way, making it possible to craft the Patera in a reflective, brilliant silver foil. Evoking the light play of classic chandeliers, the effect is also reminiscent of the light we experience in forests, with constant shifts between direct and filtered light, shadows, and dark spots.

“The light from the silver Patera is more playful compared to the classic white version,” says Slaatto. “But this is still a Louis Poulsen lamp, so it’s free of glare and characterized by the comfort, ambiance, and function Louis Poulsen is known for.”

Like all Slaatto designs, the silver Patera was conceived to be a timeless addition to interiors, transcending trends with its universal appeal. “I try to design for generations, not for trends,” Slaatto says.

The new silver Patera will be available starting in February 2019.
