The first PH Piano Lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen in the early 1930’s. A few years earlier he had invented his iconic reflective system, the System PH, and the years that followed he made multiple designs following the principles of System PH.

A keen composer himself, Poul Henningsen designed the piano lamp to be the ideal lighting solution for piano players. Together with Louis Poulsen the lamp was initially crafted in aged metal and the glass shades were placed at the end of a long, curved stem, in the fitting shape of a node. The stem was flexible with a tilt range of 25° downwards and 45° backwards to offer a precise lighting adjustment for the pianist. The lamp featured a globular element on the back of the stem functioning as a counterweight to ensure stability while playing.

Over the years, the PH Piano Lamp has been introduced in a few different materials, such as chrome metal. This year, the PH Piano Table Lamp is revived as the Limited Edition of 2026, crafted in aged brass and featuring PH 1/1 glass shades in Dusty Terracotta. The design has been slightly adjusted to fit into a more contemporary style and versatility, including a narrower tilt range, making the PH 1/1 Piano Table Lamp Limited Edition 2026 not just suitable for pianos but bedside tables, desks, and windowsills as well. An iconic heritage piece bringing a warm, tranquil glow from its coloured glass shades, and the high-quality, glare-free illumination synonymous of the System PH.
