The story of Panthella
In the 1960s, Louis Poulsen began a collaboration with Verner Panton, whose bold approach to light and form challenged traditional ideas of lighting design. Over several years, Panthella developed through careful exploration of materials, reflection and colour, with the aim of achieving a soft and atmospheric quality of light.
The chrome version was especially meaningful within this process. The high-lustre chrome-plated finish reflects Verner Panton’s confident and experimental spirit. At a time defined by more restrained interiors, chrome represented a deliberate and forward-looking choice. Today, this finish has gained renewed appreciation as design influences from the 1970s continue to inform contemporary spaces.
When introduced in 1971, Panthella combined an organic silhouette with distinctive, glare-free illumination. The curved shade and trumpet-shaped base work together to reflect light gently and evenly. Today, Panthella is widely regarded as a modern design icon.
Design heritage and quality
Panthella demonstrates Verner Panton’s ability to unite form, colour and function in a coherent whole. Since its introduction in 1971, the lamp has remained part of Louis Poulsen’s collection and is today the only Verner Panton lamp produced by Louis Poulsen.
The Flowerpot lamp, also designed by Verner Panton, is no longer part of the Louis Poulsen collection, yet it continues to be recognised as a modern design icon. Together, Flowerpot and Panthella represent two complementary expressions within Verner Panton’s design universe and reflect his lasting influence on Danish design internationally.

For reading and task-focused activities, a cooler light source of around 3000K is recommended. For a warmer and more relaxed atmosphere, 2700K or lower is suitable.
All lamps with E-sockets are compatible with LED light sources (including selected smart bulbs) and incandescent bulbs (light source not included).
