Panthella adapts comfortably to the dining room, living room and bedroom. In the dining area, it provides soft, glare-free light across the table, supporting conversation and shared time together. In the living room, different sizes and colours can be combined to create a balanced and harmonious interior. In the bedroom, Panthella offers calm, functional illumination that supports rest and everyday wellbeing.
Dining room
In the dining room, Panthella helps create a welcoming and comfortable setting. Portable versions such as Panthella 160 and Panthella 250 allow the lamp to be placed directly on the table, where gentle, diffused light is most appreciated. The light spreads evenly across the surface, enhancing both the meal and the atmosphere. Panthella’s distinctive silhouette and considered colour palette introduce a refined design element with lasting appeal.
Living room
In living spaces, Panthella in various sizes and finishes supports a cohesive lighting arrangement. Combining several models allows the light to respond to both quiet evenings and more active moments. The Panthella Floor Lamp is often positioned in the living area, where its glare-free illumination and flexible placement contribute to a calm and comfortable environment. The range of colours offers room for personal preference while maintaining visual balance.
Kitchen
Panthella integrates naturally into the kitchen, providing even and comfortable illumination across preparation areas. Its simple, organic form sits easily alongside cabinetry and furnishings, whether placed on a sideboard or kitchen island. The durable construction supports long-term use, while portable models such as Panthella 160 and Panthella 250 allow the light to be positioned accurately, including beneath wall cabinets. Panthella brings a subtle presence of Danish design and practical function into the kitchen.
In the 1960s, Louis Poulsen began a collaboration with Verner Panton, whose bold approach to light and form challenged traditional ideas of lighting design. Over several years, Panthella developed through careful exploration of materials, reflection and colour, with the aim of achieving a soft and atmospheric quality of light.
The chrome version was especially meaningful within this process. The high-lustre chrome-plated finish reflects Verner Panton’s confident and experimental spirit. At a time defined by more restrained interiors, chrome represented a deliberate and forward-looking choice. Today, this finish has gained renewed appreciation as design influences from the 1970s continue to inform contemporary spaces.
When introduced in 1971, Panthella combined an organic silhouette with distinctive, glare-free illumination. The curved shade and trumpet-shaped base work together to reflect light gently and evenly. Today, Panthella is widely regarded as a modern design icon.
Panthella demonstrates Verner Panton’s ability to unite form, colour and function in a coherent whole. Since its introduction in 1971, the lamp has remained part of Louis Poulsen’s collection and is today the only Verner Panton lamp produced by Louis Poulsen.
The Flowerpot lamp, also designed by Verner Panton, is no longer part of the Louis Poulsen collection, yet it continues to be recognised as a modern design icon. Together, Flowerpot and Panthella represent two complementary expressions within Verner Panton’s design universe and reflect his lasting influence on Danish design internationally.
Verner Panton lamps are not only practical light sources; they also serve as distinctive design elements within an interior. Even when switched off, Panthella’s organic form and balanced proportions contribute a strong visual presence. Its recognisable silhouette can become a natural focal point, adding character while maintaining harmony within the space.
Verner Panton was a pioneer of Danish design, respected for his confident use of colour, geometry and light. From furniture such as the Cone Chair and the Panton Chair to innovative lighting designs, Panthella reflects his ability to combine aesthetics, function and experimentation. His visionary approach continues to influence how light shapes space and atmosphere today.
