This exceptional design is one of the few lamps created by the renowned Danish architect Finn Juhl (1912-1989). Louis Poulsen is thrilled to announce the introduction of the Finn Juhl lamp as part of the FJ Elements collection, launching in autumn 2025. Both the pendant and table lamps will be available in three sophisticated neutrals, including Finn Juhl's original two-toned grey.
Creative and artistic
Finn Juhl was a significant architect and furniture designer in the golden age of Danish design. His work clearly illustrates the principle of form follows function, a key aspect of Danish Modern design, which he later helped introduce to America. He was famous for his distinctive creative style, which set him apart from his peers. The Finn Juhl lamp, designed in 1963, is an excellent example.
“Art has always been my main source of inspiration. I’m fascinated by shapes which defy gravity and create visual lightness.” - Finn Juhl
A distinct and timeless design
Where the materials and geometric lines of the FJ Element's design stand out in their simplicity, the playful creativity is evident in how the upper shade can rotate on the lower shade. This feature enables you to adjust the light direction in multiple ways, ensuring pleasant and glare-free illumination while also altering the lamp's appearance. The design is enhanced by the upper shade, which opens up to provide a gentle upward light from the housing, creating a lovely ambience.
“It's a great privilege to present this outstanding piece of Danish design heritage, designed by Finn Juhl, one of the most interesting creative minds of Danish Modern. This is a timeless design with an appealing contemporary relevance.” - Monique Faber, Chief Design Officer at Louis Poulsen
A linking element
The name "FJ Elements" is inspired by the original hand-drawn sketches in which Finn Juhl depicted the lamp as being composed of distinct "elements". These early drawings illustrate the form, proportions and concept for a complete lamp series, emphasising its overall construction. The
centrepiece of the series is the pendant. However, by incorporating what Juhl referred to as "a linking element", he was able to adapt the initial design into a table lamp as well.
Available soon
The FJ Elements Pendant and Table Lamp are available at selected stores and louispoulsen.com from September 2025.

About Finn Juhl
Finn Juhl's designs were quite unusual for his time. They reflected his profound interest in art history, which began during his teenage years as he visited art collections and exhibitions in Copenhagen.
His creations stand out from those of his contemporaries due to their more free and creative expression while still adhering to the principle of form follows function.
Although he primarily focused on furniture design, Finn Juhl also designed a few buildings and lamps, with the FJ Elements being a notable example.
Additionally, Finn Juhl designed the Trusteeship Council Chamber for the United Nations Headquarters in New York, helping introduce Danish Modern to America.
