In 2020, the SAGA Space Architects began an expedition for three months in the northern part of Greenland. This part of the world is rough and extreme – similar to the conditions on the moon. The team was on a quest to find out what it requires in order to live comfortably on the moon for several months. Light was one of parameters measured, and for the expedition Louis Poulsen designed a light panel to mimic the light from the sun and the sky to study how light affects the mind and body of humans under extreme conditions.

When we think of Danish design, highly saturated colours, indulgent fabrics, plastic and mind-bending shapes are not usually what spring to mind. Nevertheless, this is what Verner Panton is known for and what makes his designs popular, relevant and acknowledged today. The Panthella lamp was designed in 1971 and has become a true icon. It is a perfect example of Panton’s brilliant sense of atmospheric illumination and his ability to transform a room with his innovative designs.
Learn more about Verner Panton in this episode with stylist and colour specialist Nadia Schnack and other inspiring experts.
Outside where there are no walls to define the space for lighting, the light has to be used to define the space instead. Light can be used to create imaginative walls, paths and landscapes and to construct an entirely new world visible only when the sun has set. Similar to the way in which stage designers work with light in a set design to enhance certain moods and feelings, we can use light to generate a sense of security, to affect behaviour and to create beauty in the real world.
Meet Christian Flindt, who talks about the design of his new post top, landscape architect Rasmus Astrup and other inspiring experts.
